The sound caused Bianca to freeze. Her hands stopped moving. The muddy rag hovered in the air above Martha’s terrified face.
Julian stood there, the cool night breeze ruffling his dark suit. His rugged face, usually calm and composed during high-stakes corporate negotiations, contorted into an expression of absolute, terrifying anger. The veins in his neck pulled tight. He felt a primal, protective rage surging through his chest, a fury so deep it completely eclipsed any lingering affection he had for the woman standing by the pool. The shallow depth of his previous life was instantly replaced by the sharp, undeniable reality of the present.
“Bianca!” Julian’s voice erupted from his chest, deep, echoing, and vibrating with an intensity that seemed to shake the very foundations of the estate.
Bianca snapped her head around, her eyes widening in absolute horror. The elegant, cruel predator vanished instantly, replaced by a frantic, cornered animal. She dropped the muddy rag into the water. She scrambled back from the edge of the pool, her expensive white dress catching on the wet stone as she frantically stood up. She looked at Julian, seeing the sheer, uncompromising fury radiating from his rigid posture. The man she thought she had perfectly manipulated was looking at her as if she were a disease.
Her face shattered into pure panic. She took a step toward him, raising her hands in a desperate, pathetic gesture of surrender.
“My love, no!” Bianca stammered rapidly, her voice shrill and desperate as the water rippled behind her. She tried to close the distance, her mind racing to construct a lie, an excuse, anything to salvage the billions of dollars slipping through her fingers. “Listen to me, it is not what it looks like!”
Julian did not move. He did not step back. He simply stared at her, the sharp focus of his vision completely isolating her against the dark backdrop of the night. The anger inside him boiled over, transforming into an immense, unyielding authority. He was the master of this domain, and she had just committed an unforgivable sin on his grounds.
“Enough!” Julian roared, his voice cutting through her pathetic excuses like a steel blade. The volume and sheer force of his command caused Bianca to physically flinch backward. The veins in his forehead were popping, his jaw clenched so tightly it ached. He pointed a rigid, commanding finger directly at the long driveway that led away from the estate.
“Get out of my house right now!” he commanded, his words carrying the absolute finality of a judge delivering a life sentence. The bass drop of his authority left no room for negotiation, no space for conversation. The relationship was dead. Her life of luxury was instantly terminated.
Bianca opened her mouth to speak, a sob catching in her throat, but the look in Julian’s eyes silenced her completely. There was no mercy there. There was only the promise of total destruction if she did not comply immediately. Trembling, completely stripped of her arrogance and power, she turned and fled across the patio, her wet dress clinging to her legs as she ran toward the front of the house, disappearing into the shadows of the mansion she would never set foot in again.
Julian didn’t watch her leave. The moment she was out of his immediate periphery, she ceased to exist in his world. He broke into a full sprint. He ran past the scattered, crushed red roses on the stone floor, his expensive leather shoes slipping slightly on the wet patio. He didn’t bother taking off his tailored suit jacket or his luxury watch. He dove straight into the shallow end of the pool, the cold water splashing violently around him as he reached his mother.
He gathered Martha into his strong arms, pulling her away from the cold water and holding her fragile, shivering body tightly against his chest. He gently wiped the dirty water from her face with the sleeve of his expensive shirt, murmuring soft, comforting words to calm her frantic breathing. The mansion, the corporate mergers, the billions in the bank—none of it mattered. As he held the woman who had sacrificed everything for him, Julian finally understood the true cost of the world he had built, and he silently vowed that nothing would ever threaten his real family again.
