Chap 1
The sharp crack of flesh against skin reverberated through the grand ballroom of the Astor Hotel. The string quartet stopped playing mid-note, the silence falling over the elite crowd like a physical weight.
Victoria stood frozen, her cheek burning where the heavy hand had struck her. Before she could process the pain, iron-grip fingers clamped down hard on her shoulders.
With a sudden, violent heave, the stranger shoved her backward with terrifying force. Victoria’s custom heels slipped on the polished Italian marble.
She lost her balance entirely, tumbling backward into the center of the room. Her body crashed directly into the towering, three-tiered vanilla bean and raspberry birthday cake.
The elaborate structure buckled instantly under her weight. A tidal wave of heavy buttercream frosting, crushed red berries, and jagged sugar shards cascaded over her custom-designed silk gown.
Three hundred of the city’s most influential senators, tech moguls, and high-society elites gasped in unified shock. Then, the room plunged into a suffocating, deathly silence.
Victoria sat amidst the ruins of her own meticulously planned birthday celebration. Her vision blurred from a mixture of shock, humiliation, and stinging tears.
Her lungs seized in her chest, refusing to draw in air. Her perfect, carefully curated life had just been violently hijacked in a matter of seconds.
The furious pregnant woman stepped forward, her chest heaving beneath a disheveled blonde wig. Her eyes were wild, consumed by an unmistakable, blinding rage.
She raised her foot, preparing to stomp down maliciously on Victoria’s ruined, frosting-soaked dress. Victoria instinctively flinched, bracing herself for the final blow.
Suddenly, a blur of dark motion darted across the open ballroom floor.
Sophia, the quiet and soft-spoken housemaid, exploded into action.
For eight months, Sophia had quietly folded Victoria’s laundry and brewed her morning chamomile tea. Now, she planted her feet firmly between the attacker and her employer.
“Don’t you touch her again!” Sophia warned, her voice stripped of its usual timid whisper. It was cold, sharp, and carried an absolute, undeniable authority.
The pregnant woman let out a low, feral growl. She threw a wildly uncoordinated, heavy punch aimed straight at the young maid’s jawline.
The attacker clearly had no idea that the quiet girl in the gray uniform had spent over a decade mastering mixed martial arts. Sophia didn’t even blink.
She effortlessly shifted her weight, ducking beneath the swinging fist with practiced grace. In one fluid motion, she pivoted sharply on her heel.
Sophia delivered a precise, lightning-fast kick straight to the attacker’s midsection. The blow avoided the swollen belly, striking the hip instead.
The impact sent the woman stumbling violently backward. Her arms flailed wildly as she crashed hard onto a velvet lounge sofa.
Decorative champagne flutes shattered against the floor beneath her. Just then, the heavy mahogany doors of the ballroom burst open with a resounding crash.
Chap 2
Instead of retreating or pleading her case, the pregnant woman locked eyes with Daniel. Pure, unadulterated hatred twisted her features.
She scrambled off the velvet sofa with surprising agility. Her eyes darted around the room before landing on a heavy, water-filled ceramic vase.
She grabbed the pedestal ornament and lunged straight toward Daniel. Daniel’s survival instincts flared instantly, his body reacting purely on adrenaline.
As the heavy ceramic swung toward his temple, he ducked low. He caught the woman’s wrist mid-air with a powerful, bruising grip.
He twisted her arm downward with all his might. The woman shrieked in pain, dropping the heavy vase, which shattered across the marble floor.
Daniel wrestled her violently to the ground, pinning her flailing arms behind her back. But as they hit the floor, a strange sound cut through the chaos.
*Crack.*
The sharp noise of tearing fabric made Daniel freeze. He stared down, his chest heaving as he caught his breath.
Something large and heavy began sliding out from underneath the hem of the pink maternity dress. It was definitely not a biological human body part.
It was a massive, flesh-colored silicone prosthetic, heavily hollowed out from the inside. It hit the marble with a dull thud, rolling away.
Daniel’s expression morphed instantly from defensive fury to absolute, paralyzing horror. The entire room went even quieter if possible.
The murmurs of the elite guests died out completely. Even the security guards rushing through the doors stopped dead in their tracks.
Because as the hollow silicone belly split open on the floor, it didn’t reveal a baby. It spilled a mountain of hidden documents.
Hundreds of printed bank statements, offshore account ledgers, encrypted USB drives, and horrifying, high-resolution photographs scattered across the floor. They slid right to the tips of Daniel’s polished leather shoes.
