Walked back through the door.
Opened a blue folder.
And reminded everyone in that house of something they should never have forgotten.
I belonged there.
More importantly, I belonged to myself.
The deed proved the first part.
Everything I did afterward proved the second.
And that was why, when Ethan once tried to throw his pregnant wife out of the house, the person who ended up carrying a bag through that front door wasn’t me.
It was him.
He left because he had mistaken anger for authority.
He came back only after learning the difference.
And I stayed.
Not because I won the house.
But because I finally understood that no marriage, no family, and no fear of being alone would ever again convince me to walk out of my own life just because someone told me to.
He had said:
“Go stay with your parents.”
I didn’t.
I stayed home.
