Sarah’s breath hitched in her throat. She knew the truth, but what could she do? She was a former waitress married to the heir of a real estate empire. Brenda was a multi-millionaire socialite with a team of ruthless lawyers. If Sarah walked into that living room right now and accused Brenda of attempted murder, the entire family would call her insane. David would tell her she was hysterical from the stress. Brenda would probably sue her for defamation and use the incident to claim Sarah was mentally unstable.

The lie was already established. The family had accepted it. The paramedics had recorded it in their medical report.

It was Brenda’s word against a traumatized eighty-two-year-old woman.

Sarah closed her eyes, fighting back hot tears of absolute helplessness. She felt trapped. The monster inside that house was going to get away with it. Brenda was going to smile over Thanksgiving dinner while Eleanor lay in a hospital bed with broken bones.

Sarah opened her eyes and looked up at the ceiling of the porch, praying for a miracle.

And that was when she saw it.

Tucked deep into the shadow of the dark wooden eaves, perfectly angled to cover the entire front door, the porch, and the driveway, was a tiny, sleek black dome.

A security camera.

Sarah stopped breathing.
