Chapter 5 – The Rescue
The heavy glass sliding doors leading from the house to the sunny patio swung open.
Callan stepped outside. He wore a crisp button-down shirt, trousers, and polished shoes, his luxury wristwatch catching the bright sunlight. He expected to find his wife smiling, surrounded by pink and blue balloons, opening presents with their friends.
Instead, he walked into a nightmare.
The guests were completely frozen in terrified silence. Callan’s eyes immediately locked onto the horrific scene near the gift table. He saw the beautiful wrapped presents scattered across the stone patio, the crushed ribbons, and most terrifyingly, his eight-month pregnant wife lying hard on her side on the ground.
Jessamine was shaking violently, tears streaming down her pale, rosy cheeks as she clutched her heavy belly with both arms in a desperate, protective instinct.
Callan didn’t hesitate for a fraction of a second. He rushed across the patio, dropping entirely to his knees beside his wife. He carefully, gently helped his pregnant wife sit upright, supporting her trembling back safely against his own chest.
“Jess… my god, are you okay? Are you hurt?” Callan whispered frantically, his hands gently checking her arms and shoulders, pure terror racing through his veins.
Jessamine looked up at her husband, her eyes filled with an agonizing mix of physical pain and profound psychological terror. She pointed a shaking finger at her mother-in-law standing just a few feet away.
“Callan…” Jessamine whispered, her voice cracking as a fresh wave of tears spilled over her eyelashes. “She pushed me… she said they’re taking the baby after I deliver.”
Callan froze. The frantic, terrified husband was instantly replaced by a man possessed by a cold, absolute, and utterly lethal fury.

He slowly looked up from his weeping wife, his gaze locking entirely onto his mother.
Chapter 6 – The Cake Smash
Sabina did not look guilty. She did not look remorseful. She looked completely, sickeningly victorious.
She stood there, casually adjusting her heavy diamond bracelet, completely unbothered by the fact that she had just physically assaulted her pregnant daughter-in-law in front of fifty guests. Several of her wealthy friends remained completely frozen in the background, entirely unsure of how to react to the horrific violence they had just witnessed.
Sabina looked down her nose at Callan, fully expecting him to apologize for his wife’s “dramatic” behavior, just as she had trained him to do his entire life.
“She tripped, Callan,” Sabina lied smoothly, her voice dripping with venomous elitism. She sneered down at Jessamine. “And even if I did push her, what does it matter? You’re just a womb for her! Once the child is born, I will ensure he is raised in a proper environment, far away from your pathetic, lower-class influence.”
Callan gently helped Jessamine stand up, ensuring she was safely supported by a nearby sturdy chair.
He didn’t scream at his mother. He didn’t engage in a shouting match. He possessed the absolute, terrifying calm of a man who knew he held the ultimate executioner’s blade.
Callan slowly turned away from his mother and walked directly over to the massive, elaborate baby-shower cake sitting on the centerpiece table. It was a spectacular, three-tiered masterpiece covered in thick white frosting and delicate blue fondant decorations.
Without a single word, Callan reached out his strong hands and grabbed the heavy, wooden base of the cake stand.
He spun around with explosive, terrifying speed and hurled the massive baby-shower cake directly into Sabina’s face.

The heavy dessert exploded on impact. Thick white frosting, blue fondant, and dense sponge cake burst violently across her perfectly styled hair, her expensive silk blouse, and her pearl earrings. The sheer, heavy force of the flying cake sent Sabina staggering backward blindly, her high heels slipping on the frosting before she crashed heavily onto the grass.
