My declaration instantly annihilated the illusion of absolute power Preston had spent three years building. The final showdown had begun.

The sudden intrusion and my revelation sent shock waves through the room. Preston looked like he had been struck by lightning. His entire body locked up, his jaw clenched so tight he was nearly drawing blood. He opened his mouth to shout an objection, but his throat seized up. He couldn’t form a single word to save himself.

The veteran board members began to murmur aggressively. Bob Carmichael, the vice chairman and my father’s closest friend and co-founder, shot up from his leather chair. He pushed his reading glasses up his nose, staring at me in absolute shock. His eyes welled with tears as he saw Richard Sterling’s indomitable spirit staring back at him.

I didn’t waste another second. I opened the black folder and began personally distributing bound copies of the evidence directly to every member of the board. The sound of shuffling paper filled the room.

Standing in the center of the room, my voice as sharp as a scalpel, I systematically laid out every single one of Preston’s catastrophic crimes. I presented the bank records of the sophisticated wire transfers, proving that tens of millions of dollars from the corporate R&D reserves had been illegally authorized by Preston and funneled into three shell PR firms. I then explicitly laid out the blood relation between the registered agents of those LLCs and his executive secretary, Khloe Thorne. The filthy truth that he was embezzling corporate capital to fund his mistress’s family was right there in black and white, stamped with official bank seals.

The veteran shareholders, especially Bob, turned pale, then violently red. Bob’s face contorted in absolute fury, his hands shaking as he gripped the bank statements. He slammed the packet down, pointed directly at Preston, and roared, cursing his treacherous, sociopathic betrayal, screaming at him for daring to steal the lifeblood of the company.

Preston was in full-blown panic mode. Cold sweat poured down his face, soaking his collar. He thrashed like a drowning man, desperately trying to spin the most pathetic, flimsy lies. He shouted that these were standard corporate investments meant to expand their marketing footprint ahead of the Apex funding round. He vehemently denied any conflict of interest, screaming that I was a bitter, jealous wife fabricating documents to destroy the CEO out of a personal vendetta.

His shameless, sociopathic denial pushed the tension in the room to its absolute breaking point.

Everyone turned to me, waiting for the kill shot.

I didn’t show a shred of anger at his pathetic lies. Drowning men always grasp at straws. I offered a cold, terrifying smile, pulled my smartphone out of my blazer pocket, and calmly walked over to the AV control podium. I plugged in the HDMI cable and mirrored my phone screen onto the massive ten-thousand-dollar projector at the head of the room.

The glare of the projector hit Preston’s ghost-white face, creating a brutally poetic image.

I hit play.

The 4K hidden-camera footage filled the screen. Preston and Khloe were making out on the sofa in this very room just two months ago. The surround-sound speakers blasted the audio perfectly. The mistress’s whining voice echoed, demanding he throw his wife out. And then the kill shot—Preston’s cold, calculating voice laying out his master plan. He explicitly detailed his strategy to use the incoming billion-dollar Apex Ventures capital to hollow out Sterling Innovations, move the assets into the shell LLCs, and then force a divorce to seize the remainder.

He called his wife a stupid roadblock to be destroyed.

Preston’s own voice on tape was a razor-sharp blade that shredded his web of lies into confetti.

The boardroom erupted into total chaos. The neutral stakeholders who had remained quiet began slamming their fists on the table, demanding immediate action against the CEO’s staggering criminality and moral depravity. Bob stood up, his face thunderous, and formally demanded the meeting be halted to draft an immediate legal injunction.

Preston lost all ability to fight. His legs gave out beneath him, and his tall frame collapsed back into the chairman’s chair. He buried his face in his hands. His pride, his ego, and his imaginary billions had been completely vaporized in less than fifteen minutes.

The head of the audit committee stood up and loudly proposed an immediate board vote to suspend CEO Preston Vance from all executive duties, effective immediately. Furthermore, all physical evidence was to be sealed and handed directly over to the FBI’s white-collar crime division.

The fatal blow had landed. The traitor was finally going to face the executioner.

But right as the audit chairman finished calling for the vote, the oak doors were violently thrown open yet again.
