Khloe Thorne came charging in.
Her hair was a rat’s nest. Her heavy makeup was smeared with tears, and black mascara ran down her cheeks. She completely ignored the dozen furious billionaires and executives sitting around the table. She ran straight for Preston, who was still slumped in his chair. She grabbed him by his expensive lapels and began screeching hysterically, demanding he step up and protect her. She wailed that corporate security had just marched to her desk with cardboard boxes, packed up her things, and was trying to physically throw her out of the building like a common criminal. She violently shook Preston’s shoulders, demanding he use his CEO authority to fire the HR director immediately for daring to touch her.
Preston slowly lifted his head. His eyes were bloodshot and completely feral, like a cornered, rabid animal.
Instead of pulling her into a comforting embrace and whispering sweet nothings like he always did, he ground his teeth together, pulled his arm back, and delivered a devastating backhand across Khloe’s face. The slap was fueled by pure hatred and the strength of a desperate man. It sent her flying backward, crashing hard into the plush carpet.
Preston leaped to his feet, unleashing all of his humiliation, rage, and sheer terror onto the woman he blamed for causing this apocalypse. He pointed a shaking finger at her and screamed the most vile obscenities imaginable. He called her a stupid, useless, greedy parasite who had utterly destroyed his brilliant career and his golden empire. Like a true coward, he tried to shift one hundred percent of the blame. He shrieked to the board of directors that Khloe was a master manipulator who had used sex to brainwash him, actively seducing him and forcing him to commit corporate fraud against his will. He completely denied ever loving her, claiming he was just a victim of a highly coordinated gold-digger scheme.
Khloe, holding her swelling cheek, stared in absolute horror at the man who had promised her the world, now viciously tearing her apart to save his own skin. Then her eyes drifted up to the massive projector screen. The video was paused on an image of them making out. Having just exposed their entire plot to rob the company, she suffered a complete mental breakdown. The sheer devastating humiliation of having her gold-digger plot exposed to the ultimate corporate elite snapped her sanity.
Screaming like a banshee, she lunged at Preston, clawing wildly at his face. She screamed that he was a pathetic coward, a spineless loser who refused to take responsibility, a piece of trash who used people and threw them away.
The two lovers, who had once shared a bed and plotted to steal my family’s legacy, were now rolling around on the floor of the boardroom, tearing at each other’s throats like feral dogs fighting over a rotting carcass.
Bob Carmichael had seen enough of this grotesque, sickening display. He slammed his fist onto the table and ordered corporate security to intervene immediately. Six massive security guards in black suits rushed into the room. With brutal efficiency, they pinned Preston and Khloe, twisted their arms behind their backs, and dragged them out of the boardroom. Their vicious screaming, cursing, and sobbing echoed down the hall until it was finally silenced by the closing of the elevator doors.
The massive boardroom returned to its original silence. Though the air was thick with shock and lingering rage, the toxic garbage had been taken out. Now it was time for me to start rebuilding my father’s empire from the ashes.
The humiliating public decapitation of the CEO, coupled with massive financial fraud, had created a catastrophic power vacuum at the absolute worst possible time. In exactly one week, the senior partners from Apex Ventures were flying in from New York to execute the final round of negotiations to inject billions into Sterling Innovations. This capital was a matter of life and death for our core tech development. Losing the CEO right before a Series E funding round would normally send a company into a death spiral. Several board members looked terrified, whispering that the billion-dollar deal was going to collapse because of this horrifying scandal.
I calmly walked over, gathered the evidence files, and stacked them neatly on the glass table. I stood tall, facing the board of directors, my voice steady, my logic razor-sharp, radiating the indomitable entrepreneurial blood of the Sterling family. I laid out an aggressive, uncompromising crisis-management protocol.
I formally nominated Bob Carmichael, a man with deep industry respect, the longest tenure, and a co-founder, to immediately step in as interim chairman of the board. His presence would serve as an iron anchor, stabilizing morale and reassuring Wall Street and our partners during this violent transition.
